How the cribbage calculator (crib counter) works

Every cribbage hand is four cards plus the starter. The calculator counts them the same way an experienced player does, in this order:

  1. Fifteens — every different combination of cards adding up to 15 scores 2.
  2. Pairs — every pair scores 2 (three of a kind is three pairs, 6; four of a kind is six pairs, 12).
  3. Runs — three or more cards in sequence score 1 per card. Each extra version made by a paired card counts again.
  4. Flush — four hand cards of one suit score 4, or 5 with the starter. A crib needs all five.
  5. His nobs — the Jack of the starter’s suit scores 1.

Use it at the table, even offline

Playing with a real deck and board? Keep this cribbage calculator open on your phone to check hands and cribs as you go. After your first visit it works without an internet connection, and you can add it to your home screen like an app.

Questions

How do I use the cribbage calculator?

Tap your four hand cards in the card grid, then tap the starter (the card turned face up after the discard). Your score and a full breakdown appear straight away. Choose The crib at the top if you are counting the crib.

Does the cribbage calculator work offline?

Yes. After you have opened it once with an internet connection, it keeps working without one — handy when you are playing with a real deck and board.

Why does my flush not count in the crib?

In the crib a flush only counts if all five cards, including the starter, are the same suit. A four-card flush scores 4 in your hand but nothing in the crib.

Can I share a hand?

Yes. Once all five cards are chosen, tap Share this hand to copy a link. Anyone who opens it sees the same cards and score.
